Board of Directors

The Mico Foundation is supervised by a nine-member Board of Directors. Members to the Board of Directors are drawn in equal number from the Trustees, The University College and the Alumni Association (MOSA. There are two (2) ex-officio members, one of whom is the President of The Mico and the other a member of The Lady Mico Trustees resident in Jamaica, or if not, a person named by the Trustees. A Director is elected to serve for three (3) years in the first instance and is eligible to be re-elected to serve for a maximum of two (2) additional three (3) years term. The only exceptions are the Chancellor of The Mico who shall serve for the duration of being Chancellor. The resident Trustee of The Lady Mico Trust, who shall serve as ex-officio member for the duration of his/her being Trustee, The President of The Mico who shall serve as ex-officio member for the duration of his/her tenure as President.

Former Principal and Chancellor of The Mico College. Educator extaordinaire, visionary, author and chief archetec of The Mico Foundation. Professor Miller has provided the leadership for the implementation of major reforms in the public education system. The Mico CARE Centre was his brainchild; he was also pivotal in initiating the female students hostel at 60 Arnold Road, which now bears his name.

Pharmacist, Businessman and Management Consultant extraordinaire. Dr. R. Karl James served The Mico Board of Directors for over 40 years. As Chairman of the Board he was pivotal to many of the developments that brought The Mico to University Cllege Status. His very keen interest in Special Education led to the establishment of the satellite CARE Centre in St. Anns Bay, which now bears the name. “Roderick Karl James CARE Centre” Dr. James represents the Lady Mico Trust on the Board of the Foundation.

Dr. Sylvester Tulloch is a proud graduate of The Mico. After a successful career in teaching, and then in the banking sector, Dr. Tulloch made the courageous decision to move into the Real Estate Development. Today he owns and manages Kemteek Development and Construction Limited, one of the most respected Real Estate Development Companies in Jamaica. Dr. Tulloch remains a committed Miconian and philanthropic individual offering support for the development of humanity. His annual scholarships for students of Mathematics at his Alma mater is but one of his several contributions to educational development. He is a committed Baptist and lay preacher who makes no apology for his Christian service.

holds a PhD in Biochemistry (UWI), an MSc Health Policy Planning and Financing (University of London) and a BSc in Biochemistry and Zoology (UWI). She specializes in epidemiology, health policy, health services research, research methods and Biostatistics. Dr. Gordon-Strachan is an avid researcher who has developed a national research agenda and is working on a National Health Research Policy as a part of Jamaica’s Vision 2030 strategy. She has published widely, has peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts from conferences and scientific papers. She has presented at several academic conferences. She serves as a board member of the Youth and Education Board of the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, which oversees one tertiary institution, eleven high schools and one hundred and twelve primary schools across Jamaica for which the Diocese has direct responsibility.

Dr. Peter-John Gordon is a member of the Economics Faculty of the University of the West Indies (Mona). He previously served as the Director of Economic Planning and Research at the Planning Institute of Jamaica. He has served on a number of public sector boards and was previously the chairman of the Jamaican Fair Trading Commission and the Maritime Authority of Jamaica. He serves The Mico Foundation as a representative for the Lady Mico Trust.

Mr. Burchell Duhaney, a proud graduate of the Mico College who studied Visual Arts, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts (BA), followed by an M.Sc in Art Education. He returned to alma mater in the late 1970 moving through the ranks from lecturer to Vice Principal. With clear evidence of the changing directions in teaching and learning and his interest in the emerging trends in technology and education delivery, Burchell returned to school in 1999 to read for a Master's Degree (M.Sc) in Instructional Technology and Distance Education. After retiring from the government service, Burchell returned to his alma mater where he now serves as Secretary Manager fo The Mico Foundation.

Mr. Thomas is a successful businessman who currently holds the position of Managing Director of Pioneer Manufacturing Distribution- PMD. Company Limited. Alfred is an alumnus of Mico Teachers' College, now The Mico University College, Purdue University, and Harvard University. With his long and distinguished history of service, The Mico Foundation is pleased to welcome Mr. Alfred as a member who now serves on the Finance Committee.

Management team

A workforce of seven-team members led by the Secretary Manager manages the daily affairs of The Mico Foundation. The staff is guided by the vision and mission of the Foundation and is committed to provide the necessary support to ensure the highest quality service and the success of the projects that are undertaken. The entrenched values of accountability, transparency, integrity and partnership are defining measures by which the staff conducts the business of the Foundation.

Mr.Burchell Duhaney served The Mico College moving through the ranks to become Vice Principal. In 2003 he moved to take up the position as Principal of the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts where he established himself as a transformational leader. He served on the Board of the Foundation as a representative for The Mico Alumni Association (MOSA) before being appointed in the capacity of Secretary Manager of the Foundation.
