My Fellow Miconians,
I write to bring to your attention the urgent need for the restoration of the Buxton Building, one of the treasured landmarks of our esteemed institution. This critical project is being coordinated by Mr. Burchell Duhaney, Secretary Manager of the Mico Foundation, and a dedicated member of the Restoration Committee.
The total cost of restoring this treasured building is estimated at J$160 million. I am pleased to report that during a recent Breakfast Launch, an encouraging J$17.1 million was generously pledged by Miconians. This strong show of support reflects the deep affection held for our institution’s legacy. However, we have been advised that work on the project cannot commence unless at least 60% of the total cost is secured. Additionally, there is an urgent time constraint, as any delay may disrupt the upcoming academic sessions. We are therefore seeking your support for this noble and necessary cause. We kindly request that you indicate your commitment by 31 July 2025, with disbursement by 29 September 2025.
As a token of our gratitude and to ensure your contribution is permanently recorded, there will be two Books of Donations:
- - One for the official archives of The Mico University College
- - The other for submission to the National Library of Jamaica
A pledge form is available below. We welcome your support towards this project. For additional information or to further discuss this project, please contact Mr. Burchell Duhaney, member of the Buxton Restoration Committee, at 876-665-7788.
“Your support will play a vital role in preserving a historic symbol of our heritage for future generations.”
Respectfully,
On behalf of the Restoration Committee,
Vivian Crawford
